Empowering kids for a future in aviation.

Bowman Skunk Works is a unique airplane building program for high school students in Louisville, KY. Located on the south side of Bowman Field, it aims to spark kids' interest in aviation.

Students, with the help of volunteers and parents, build an RV-12 airplane, a two-seat all-metal side-by-side plane that meets the Light Sport Aircraft category. The aircraft kit is designed to be assembled with no specialized tooling, allowing the program to be open to any student with a desire to learn.

Exciting things are constantly happening at Bowman Skunk Works. If you're ever in the area, don't hesitate to stop by and say "Hello"!

Exciting Opportunities for Students

Students in the build program have the chance to work alongside UPS aircraft engineering, flight operation, and aircraft maintenance retirees. They also get exciting opportunities like riding in an RV-12, going on tours of local aviation facilities, and other fun and exciting activities centered around aviation and engineering.

The Future of Aviation

Bowman Skunk Works recently engaged University of Louisville Schools of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in their Capstone Senior Project to convert an RV-12 to all electric. Check frequently to learn more about this project and watch the progress.
